YAMAN
Reviving 60s & 70s Turkish Pop with a Contemporary Sound
Anatolian Rock. Turkish Psychedelic Pop. Cultural Reconnection.
YAMAN is a newly formed band dedicated to reviving the golden era of 1960s and 1970s Turkish pop and Anatolian rock. With passion, distinctive arrangements, and first original compositions, the band pays tribute to the rich musical heritage of Anatolia while bringing it into a contemporary live context.
Blending nostalgia with modern indie energy, YAMAN reinterprets Turkish psychedelic pop for today’s audiences — powerful, danceable, and emotionally resonant.
A Journey into Heritage and Identity fronted by singer and soprano saxophonist Leyla Mei Parker,
YAMAN is more than a revival project — it is a journey of cultural rediscovery.
Raised in Vorarlberg as the daughter of Turkish parents, Leyla Mei’s deep engagement with Anatolian music represents an intimate reconnection with a culture that has felt both familiar and distant. Through music, she reclaims language, heritage, and identity. When she met guitarist and arranger Ramona Kasheer in Vienna — herself a cosmopolitan musician from Vorarlberg — they decided to reinterpret Leyla Mei’s cultural roots through their own artistic voice.
What began as a shared exploration soon became a musical road trip through the repertoire of legendary Turkish artists such as:
Barış Manço
Fikret Kızılok
Tülay German
YAMAN has organically developed into a dynamic live band with rich instrumentation, rhythmic drive, and vibrant stage presence. Their repertoire combines carefully reimagined Anatolian pop classics with original compositions inspired by Turkish folk traditions, retro-pop, and contemporary alternative music.
